A Parishioner's View: Stewardship 2025
Dear Parish Family,
The Stewardship Campaign is underway and pledges are needed. It is that time of year when we reflect on the gifts we receive from St. James and decide how we can all be better stewards of this historic church.
Many years ago I got a call from someone on the Stewardship Committee asking me to make a pledge. I told them that I didn’t pledge, but I did contribute annually. I thought a check in the mail was more convenient and reliable than a pledge to contribute at some later date. Well, that might be right, but I learned I was missing something.
It is only through pledges that the Vestry, Clergy, and Staff can plan for the upcoming year and carry out the mission of the Church. Whether it is the Sunday worship services, the many outreach projects, Christian formation, the need for pastoral care, or simply a parish social gathering, St. James offers so much to so many different people. Our historic buildings on two campuses require ongoing repairs and maintenance so our youth group, Sunday school, day school, choir, nursery, and various programs can meet in a clean, comfortable, and safe setting. With the significant growth of our church over the past several years comes the need for more financial support.
While contributions are certainly welcome throughout the year, please consider making a pledge now so our Vestry can fairly compensate our clergy and staff, preserve our historic property, increase our programs, and respond to the needs of our community. Your financial support is needed for St. James to continue its good work.
Sincerely,
David Sprunt
