From the Rector: February 2024
Direct us, O Lord, in all our doings with your most gracious favor, and further us with your continual help; that in all our works begun, continued, and ended in you, we may glorify your holy Name, and finally, by your mercy, obtain everlasting life; through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen
~ Book of Common Prayer
Dear Parish Family,
I am delighted to share with you once again a robust and informative St. James Parish Annual Report. As in years past, I encourage you to take intentional time and space to read through this entire offering. Here you will clearly come to know the unique season we have had through the depth and breadth of this parish. Indeed, the faithful dedication of our staff, lay leadership and ministry coordinators are palpable through these following pages.
St. James remains a very special place, and we have so much for which to be grateful and also accountable. We have the gift of a rich history which is brought to the forefront of our minds by St. James’ fast approaching 300th anniversary. We have a large and distinct city block under our charge. Our sanctuary offers a place of sacred presence when we gather for worship, and it is complemented by the simplicity and natural grace of Mount Lebanon Chapel. It continues to be our parish members, though, that are the heart of our church. The faithful compassion and commitment of so many is what allows St. James to live into its mission - to “grow in love of God and neighbor.”
I return again and again to the Apostle Paul, compelling us to remember that “just as the body is one and has many members, and all the members of the body, though many, are one body, so it is with Christ.” (I Corinthians 12:12). As we celebrate and honor both the successes and the challenges of our past year, and then prayerfully ponder our future together, may we remain steadfast in all our doings - to trust, serve and glorify Jesus Christ our Lord.
I remain grateful to serve as your Rector and look with joy to our life together in 2024.
Faithfully,
The Rev. C. Phillip Craig, Jr.
