A Special Announcement from the Rector
On Sunday morning, July 14, 2024, the Rev. Phillip Craig offered these thoughts to our parish family. We take this opportunity to share them with you again.
"It’s important to acknowledge this morning the shooting incident that took place in Butler, Pennsylvania on Saturday afternoon.
As people of faith, we know from scripture that a house divided can not stand.
We know from Jesus that his way is the way of love.
And we know from our baptismal covenant our own commitment to “strive for justice and peace, and to respect the dignity of every human being.”
So we do pray this day for former President Trump and his family and for all who were harmed or impacted by this incident. And we pray especially for the grieving family of the person who was killed.
Our Presiding Bishop said in a statement on Sunday morning:
The way of love—not the way of violence—is the way we will bind up our nation’s wounds.
With these words in mind, may all of us individually, and as the St. James Parish family, seek to offer that way of love in this fragile and broken world - with God’s help.
Grant, O God, that your holy and life-giving Spirit may so move every human heart, and especially the hearts of the people of this land, that barriers which divide us may crumble, suspicions disappear, and hatreds cease; that our divisions being healed, we may live in justice and peace; through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen."
