Remembering Judi Logan
Judith (Judi) Sexton Logan slipped beyond the mortal realm on May 2, 2023, at age 78. Shortly before her death, she stated that she had “…lived a full life, filled with love, family, wonderful meals, and travel.” She, her husband, Steven Alan Logan, and their beloved Standard Poodle, Baron, resided at 108 Pulaski Trail, Chapel Hill, North Carolina. She was proceeded in death by her mother Katherine Louise Sexton and her father Reverend Virgil Wesley Sexton. In addition to her husband, she is survived by her sister Linda Sexton-Patrick (Keith), of Easley, South Carolina, her twin brother, John Ward Sexton (Suzanne), of Atlanta, Georgia, her daughter, Anne Faris Brennan (Mark), of New York City, her son, Greg Alan Faris (Stephanie), and his children Penelope and Spencer of Pittsboro, North Carolina.
Judi was born on June 6, 1944, in Beloit, Wisconsin. She often commented that she kicked her twin brother, John Ward, out of the womb, ostensibly for a little peace and quiet. He was born two hours and twenty minutes before she was. In fact, the doctor had no idea she was still inside, until she made her belated arrival and announced her presence with a blood chilling scream. But then came “pay-back” time. If she had hoped for peace and quiet, she had failed, because she was forced to share the hospital’s only incubator with her brother John.
Judi graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) from Evanston University and a master’s degree in management from the University of South Florida. She served as a nurse for 43 years. During that time, she worked in a psychiatric ward, as a Public Health Nurse, in the medical offices of Otolaryngologists, and Pediatricians as well as managing nurses across the nation engaged in Catastrophic Case Management and as a trainer for computer “geeks,” building medical software. She finally surrendered her nursing license when she and Steve retired and moved to Wilmington, NC. There she threw herself into her passions: gardening (she became a Master Gardener,) church, and social causes (becoming the first President of the Assistance League of Greater Wilmington.)
The final two years of her life were fraught with illness and hospital stays. Through it all, Judi maintained a positive outlook and a sense of humor. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, May 20, 2023, at 2 p.m. in the Encore Clubhouse, 164 Boone Street, Chapel Hill, NC 27312. In lieu of giving flowers, the family asks that those who wish to honor Judi, please donate to the Assistance League of Greater Wilmington, 420 Eastwood Road, Unit 107, Wilmington, NC 28403.
