The Rev. Joseph "Gray" Hodsdon

Associate Rector

Prior to his call as Associate Rector at St. James, Gray served for two years as Curate at San Jose Church and Day School in Jacksonville, FL.

Gray graduated in 2020 from The School of Theology at Sewanee: The University of the South, where he served as Student Body President in 2019. Before seminary, Gray interned for a year with the Bishop’s Institute for Ministry and Leadership in the Diocese of Florida. Gray graduated from Florida State University in 2016, where he earned a Bachelor of Arts in Religion and Sacred Music. While at FSU, he became actively involved at the Episcopal University Center (Ruge Hall) as well as St. John’s Church, Tallahassee. It was during these years that he discerned a call to ordained ministry.

Gray loves God and sharing the Good News of Christ. He met his wife, Catie, at Ruge Hall in 2012, and they married at St. John’s, Tallahassee in 2019. Catie is a Physician Assistant and has a passion for service. Together they live with their Australian cattle dog mix, Frannie.

The Rev. Dr. Bill Weisser

Interim Director of Music

Bill retired in 2011 as Minister of Music at Edenton Street United Methodist Church in Raleigh, where he had been responsible for seven singing choirs, three handbell choirs, three dance ensembles and instrumental ensembles with over 460 participants for more than 35+ years. He was the conductor and artistic director of the Capital Area Chorale, a mixed-voice community choir, for 11 years. Bill was also an adjunct assistant professor on the faculty of North Carolina State University, where he directed the University Singers for 5 years.

Since retirement, he has served at several churches as an interim director, including most recently at St. Paul’s Episcopal Church here in Wilmington. Bill is a graduate of Westminster Choir College, having done graduate work in sacred music at Indiana University. He has performed with the Chicago Symphony and the North Carolina Symphony, was the founding director of the Children’s Choir of Duke Chapel, and directed the choir that sang the publisher’s premiere of John Rutter’s “Requiem,” with the composer conducting. He is also an ordained deacon in the Methodist church and has retired to Wilmington.
