Vestry Corner ~ April 2024
“The Gifts of God for the People of God. Take them in remembrance that Christ died for you, and feed on him in your hearts by faith, with thanksgiving.”
BCP, Holy Eucharist Rite 1
We all are very aware of the age of our buildings, so it is to be expected to have some surprises. A very old electrical breaker in the basement that connects one of our main feeds to the Sanctuary “broke”, resulting in partial loss of lighting and service to the organ. The repairs were completed the following Friday with normal operations. We will also initiate a complete review of our fire safety for the entire campus. While we are talking about old properties, I am pleased to report that the paperwork snag between our contractor and the NC Department of Revenue has been resolved. A start date in early April is anticipated.
Many thanks to all those who gave money and volunteered for the Habitat for Humanity “Unity Build”. SJP was a leader in this project. The exterior of the house is complete. Landscaping and some interior work remains before the new homeowner moves in. Also many thanks to Tom Hackler for organizing and building a new storage closet for St. Martha’s Guild, hidden on the left side of the Great Hall stage. This small addition provides these ladies with a secure location to store the heavy serving platters, linens and other items in a safer, more accessible location. Russell Clark, Jim McFarland and Jack Clark were instrumental in getting the work done.
We are hoping to confirm another Rise Against Hunger meal packaging event for next October. Don Brainard has led this effort in the past, so we now have an opening in this leadership position. If you would like to show off your organizational skills with about 100 volunteers, please contact Mary Paul Beall. It is our desire to seek corporate sponsorship to offset the $20,000.00 cost for the one-day event. More details will follow as this develops.
The Mount Lebanon Committee has been active over the winter, and is ready for another great season. As in the past, the chapel will be available for tour during the Azalea Festival, with members of our Evangelism Committee serving as hosts. Then, we all look forward to our first Sunday of worship on May 26th. We look forward to seeing you there.
Blessings and God’s Peace.
