Education for Ministry (EfM)
EfM is a 4-year study that only asks for a yearly commitment. This program has been provided through the School of Theology in Sewanee, TN, for over 50 years. It enables participants to explore and deepen their Christian belief through study of the Bible, Christian history, and theology. We examine our own beliefs and reflect on applying scripture to our everyday lives. Our goal is to deepen our faith and to discover how to express it in service to others.
"At my EfM training last March, someone brought up the question “What is the quality that one embraces to start their journey in EfM?” Being curious was the response. Most EfM participants are curious – curious about their faith, curious about God’s call for them, curious about where and how they hear God, and how we live out that ministry and call.
I thought about how throughout our Christian Tradition, we have heard stories of God’s people being curious: Adam and Eve, Moses, the Israelites, the Disciples, Zacchaeus, the Woman who touched Jesus’s robe, the thousands who came to hear the Jesus’s Sermon on the Mount, Mary, Martha and Naomi who went to the tomb of Jesus, Doubting Thomas. You get the point – curious!
Education for Ministry gives us the tools to spread the Good News. Through core practices of EfM – Living in Community, Regular Prayer and Worship, Theological Reflection, the study of Christian Tradition and our discernment of God’s call. We learn and grow in faith to answer that call of CURIOSITY and practice with faith, the Good News. Come share in God’s Journey with us." - Karen Clark
